I have been asked many times how I get so much done every day. I have been thinking about it a lot recently because in my mind it really does not seem that hard to do. Only when I go back and look at the week do I realize how much I accomplish on a regular basis.
Part of it is that my time off consists of doing something else that is important to me. For example, I may practice for 4 hours and then take a break from practicing to read a book about marketing, or go for a run, or meet a friend for a coffee/brainstorming session, or do some Green Dot Journey research and then go back to practicing. In other words it may look like I never relax but really itʼs a matter of taking a break from one thing to focus on another that uses a totally different skill set but that is still moving me in the direction of my overall goals and aspirations.
I think that what I spend my time doing has a huge influence over my productivity and continued life enjoyment. Over the years I’ve created a wonderful existence that is full of everything that I love; teaching, practicing, performing, enjoying the outdoors, travel, and connecting with people on a regular basis. None of these things cause me stress as long as they are well balanced. I’ve definitely had rough days when I was spending too much time doing one or the other of them.
It has not always been as easy as it is now. Iʼve spent a lifetime making productivity a daily habit and exercising self control. Iʼve always had to keep in mind that self-control is like a muscle. It can very successfully be pushed to amazing heights but it can also be overworked to the point of exhaustion. Time off is crucial to overall productivity. There are definitely days when I sleep in, go hiking, bask in the sun and watch the clouds roll by, read a book for fun and take time to smell the roses.
Balance and productivity are wonderful things!
