I can’t even begin to contain my excitement at the fact that I am actually on the road driving Green Dots!!! This is a trip I feel like I’ve been planning forever and now it’s become a reality!!
Week 1 of the Green Dot Journey: Maine
I drove 2082.4 miles in Maine this week!
There were several things that struck me about Maine. Firstly, I did not realize how large it actually is! It is incredibly forested, especially Northern Maine. It felt like the trees were constantly changing in relationship with the road depending on what time of day and where the sun was shining. I am surprised that with all of the miles that I drove and all of the ‘Moose’ signs that I kept seeing that I didn’t end up bumping into a live moose…sad.
Secondly, I loved seeing all of the steepled churches. There was one in every town that I passed through, kinda like the courthouse in every town in the mid-west. I also noticed that their were a lot of American flags everywhere in Maine. I saw lining the streets of the towns on the electric poles and on flagpoles in everyone’s yards throughout the whole state. There must have been hundreds throughout the state. It gave a very festive, 4th of July feeling to the entire week of driving in Maine.
Thirdly, there are no words to adequately describe Acadia National Park. Thick forest opening out into incredibly vistas. Cadillac Mountain’s amazing height and the incredible views that could be seen of the ocean, the harbors, and thick, thick forests….breathtaking!
It was really hard to narrow them down but below are my favorite pictures of my week driving the green dots in Maine…hope you enjoy!
