I know it’s completely unorthodox to perform classical violin repertoire without a live pianist. Eugenio Urrutia recorded the piano- only parts after we performed the pieces together live which helped him record in the same style and interpretation that we presented at the concerts. Naturally, as a performer, playing with a recording, however good, will not be the same experience. It has taken a lot of getting used to.
Of course, I LOVE performing with a live pianist. Nothing compares to the give and take of music performed by two players that are deeply in tune with each other! However, this trip is meant to be a personal journey and I’ve sacrificed the live pianist for the opportunity to play impromptu classical concerts anytime, anywhere…outside, inside, on a mountain top or in a cornfield.
